@syrDSA was able to knock out one of the longest serving members of the NY Assembly AND fill Brown’s county seat. Earlier this year I spoke w/ @bojak4assembly in Buffalo who said that DSA wins outside of NYC would prove that it could compete statewide. Seems like he was right.
Peter Sterne@petersterne

They just called AD129 for Mo Brown. (He won by just over 100 votes, meaning there's no automatic recount.) That means DSA won 8 out of 9 non-incumbent NY state races this year (sorry @ConradforHarlem), in addition to reelecting all 8 incumbent State Socialists in Office.

Photos from @claireforny election night watch party on Tuesday June 23, 2026. Once polls closed at 9 pm, people crowded around a few laptops and roared in excitement every time a new batch of votes dropped. By the end of the night, the crowd was emotional and ecstatic.

Spoke to Rep. George Latimer (NY-16) about the New York primary results, he described the night as a “mixed bag” and noted/congratulated each congressional primary winner. “I'm not trying to minimize it. I mean, obviously, the DSA picked up three seats. But it's a mixed bag.”

IDK the quality of AOC’s constituency services, but using the fact that she got “just” 30,000 votes in a non-competitive mid-term primary as evidence is not being serious. Nydia Valezquez got fewer than 20k votes in three straight primaries between 2012-16!
David Marcus@BlueBoxDave

@Deve_Dy @aidan_smx01 She received 30,000 votes in a district of 750,000 people. And yes, the complaint I heard from people in her district is that she’s not around, she rarely holds town halls, and her office is not super responsive.

Someone else also pointed this out, but such a stark contrast between the experiences last night of Jerry Nadler and Nydia Velazquez. Both progressive stalwarts retiring from Congress. But unlike Velazquez, Nadler got his preferred successor + ousted a downballot opp

History has been made in East Harlem. Diana Ayala has beaten incumbent Eddie Gibbs, becoming the first Latina to become Assembly Member in this district.

Also -and truly not to take away from her work as AG - but the last competitive race James had to run was in 2018 where she couldn’t break 50% against Zephyr Teachout. I think a lot of 2029 mayoral talk around her is not rooted in reality, especially if Z is a popular incbmt.
Eric Thor@ericedwardthor

Some really odd quotes from Tish James where she disappointedly sounds out right resentful of voters who defeated her candidate by over 20% and continue to want change in leadership. Also her understanding of DSA & WFP also reads as out of touch with reality? Best of luck to her!

One of the things that I think helped DSA logistically this cycle was running overlapping candidates. The ability to run joint canvasses and share staff/resources probably helped them with their largest slate ever. Just something to note if AOC runs statewide or higher.

Sen. Sanders tells me that he just spoke with Darializa Avila Chevalier “to wish her the very best.” Said “I'm really happy that she won” and there was no particular reason she didn’t get his endorsement.

@RBroszkowski In his favor, 2028 might not have such a high-profile congressional primary driving turnout but at the same time, it's a clear target seat for the left and Taylor was dropped this low w/o a DSA-endorsed opponent.

Based on tonight’s results, if I’m Al Taylor (AD-71), I’d be pretty nervous for my next election. Taylor dropped from 70.7% to 55% against the same opponent from 2024. His district is also squarely inside of NY-13 AND it’s going to be a presidential year.

As we witness this wave of the progressive left, can we talk about a certain progressive Puerto Rican state senator in the Bronx who has virtually single-handedly taken on the tough progressive fights in the borough for the past 16 years, including challenges from Espaillat?

At the last NY-12 debate, Micah Lasher said he was happy that Jack Schlossberg was in the race. Today I’m sure that’s doubly true given that Jack almost definitely pulled votes away from Micah’s closest opponent Alex Bores. Final votes: Lasher 39.1, Bores 35, Jack 10.8
