❓Where does Thomas Frank rank for value extraction? 📈 Brentford: 1.32 pts/game vs 0.79 expected on their wage bill (+0.53 ppg - best in PL). 🔝 Only Pochettino at Spurs matched Frank’s longevity among top 10 overperformers. 👉 Consistency + outperformance.

@TightFive_Rugby That’s fascinating. Kind of thought the complaints were just people being reluctant to try something new but this puts a very different perspective on it

This is really interesting from Fraser Brown. Speaking about the new ‘smart gumshields’, why he wouldn’t wear one and how minute changes in size and shape to mouthguards can help or hinder chances of concussion.

NEW: we don’t reflect enough on how severe the housing crisis is, and how it has completely broken the promise society made to young adults. The situation is especially severe in the UK, where the last time house prices were this unaffordable was in ... 1876.

Clearly a mixed response to these recommendations. This was expected - in a world where new evidence emerges, surely change is needed? Also been interesting to see the general positive responses, by those who have been part of the broader discussions. Here's some rational (1);

Progressive daily hopping exercise improves running economy in amateur runners: a randomized and controlled trial: 2023 🔍 Study Overview: 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️34 amateur runners (Age: 29 ± 7 years, comprising 27 males). 📆 Over 6 weeks, the exercise group did 5 minutes ⏰ of double-legged hopping daily. The hopping bouts lasted 10 seconds each ⏳, with the number of bouts gradually increasing and rest periods shortening.📈 📊 RE, peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) 🌬️, and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) 🔄 were measured at three 🏃‍♂️ running speeds before and after the intervention. 🔍 Findings: 1️⃣ 6 weeks of daily hopping exercise can enhance running economy at higher speeds (12 and 14 km/h) without affecting maximal aerobic capacity. 2️⃣ The benefits are pronounced even when the hopping regimen is kept simple and done for only 5 minutes daily. 3️⃣ No reported injuries or side effects from this hopping exercise protocol.👍 🔍 This aligns with earlier research that plyometrics, like hopping, can boost running performance, especially at greater speeds. 🧐 One point of discussion is what's driving these changes. Tendon stiffness, metabolic factors, or alterations in running mechanics? #runners #runningcommunity #runchat
