To continue the trend of introducing brand-new protagonists, I think the next one after Grace Ashcroft should be Elza Walker, Claire Redfield's best friend—the one who phoned Claire at the start of the RE2 Remake and the one who sent Claire that letter.

Wesker is meh, him showing up in person was a terrible decision in 4r but we know he did that anyway (albeit much later) to recover Krauser’s body. Him explaining his evil deeds to people for no reason is in line with his character

She does manipulate yes, obviously, however with a tiny bit of media literacy we can see the change happen over the course of each meeting between the two. She originally mocks him for wanting to “save the world” (1/2)

It was a last second decision, Annette clearly has trouble operating under stress

@LetmeLive236 Easily Irons, his entire plotline has 0 and I mean 0 reason to exist on the demake. They made him chase Sherry's pendant and it was never explained why. His entire role is to simply waste time on Claire's story mode. He's not even a character but a walking plot device.

The Lycan Ambush, an obvious recreation of the ambush from RE4, is a perfect distillation of Village’s big flaw in that it doesn’t fully commit to the action of RE4 while also not being as horror focused as 7, stuck in the middle which hurts the larger focus on combat.
