NOW: Six House Republicans joined Democrats to advance Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s bill to give Haitians in the U.S. Temporary Protected Status for three years. The measure passed 219–209 and now moves to a final House vote tomorrow.

Dexter Lawrence had a higher Pass Rush Win Rate last year than Brian Burns did any season in his entire career while commanding one of the highest double and triple team rates in the NFL.
CS@CRS195610

@MONTECRI5TO Brian Burns was coming off a very good yr after his age 25 season. Burns’s deal expired & was on the tag. Dex is coming off a poor season, has 2 more yrs on his deal, & is entering his age 29 season. Their situations are not the same.

@MONTECRI5TO You’ve provided an example of a bad contract though. Maybe they juice Dex’s deal a bit and guarantee it, but he’s coming off a down/injured year. It’s the absolute riskiest time for the giants to extend him when they don’t have to. He should just ball out and earn it plus more

Tyler Linderbaum off his worst season since his Rookie Year got 10 Million more than the next highest paid Center
David Soffer@davidrsoffer

@MONTECRI5TO Because it was a down year. Can anyone provide an example where a player, off a down year, reset the market at a position? Injury or not, I’m not sure that’s happened.

The Giants are 23-46-1 under Joe Schoen. During that time, the Giants lost a franchise cornerstone in Saquon Barkley… who had (arguably) the greatest RB season EVER the following year, and won a Super Bowl with a division rival. Also didn’t get a deal done with Xavier McKinney… who became a back to back All Pro the following two years in Green Bay. Didn’t retain Julian Love, who elevated in Seattle… shipped Leonard Williams off, who continued to get better… Dexter Lawrence might be next. Who knows what impact a trade has on the locker room, as well as guys like Brian Burns who said “How I feel technically is that we just need him in the building, regardless of whatever it is. Figure it out. Get it done. I don't want to see somebody else in that 97 besides Dex” Uber-talented players continue to leave the building… At what point does a “price point” or “positional value” take a backseat to pure talent? Or the locker room?

Makes total sense to hire a 64 year old coach @ 20M/year to them turn around and trade away the best player on your defense because of contract issues for draft picks in a draft that is the weakest in years at said player's position group.

That we're still hearing about how there are two years left on Dex's deal answers why there's an impasse. I understand the Giants wanting to just ride out the contract. But that's just not tenable at this point. Holdouts have become outdated, so I don't think the threat of lost wages due to fines serve as much leverage. But there's nothing stopping Dex from holding *in* like so many other top players have done to push for new deals. Again, to me, it just comes down to their evaluation of him as a player going forward. If they think he'll return to form, give him a raise that gets him over the $26M/year DTs. All we hear about is how healthy the cap situation is in the future, so they can afford to splurge if they believe he's still a dominant force. And if they don't think he's that player anymore, makes sense to trade him for the best return you can get now. Sounds great to say "Just make him play, he signed the contract." Where does that get you a year from now? He's forced their hand, but that might not be a bad thing. They've been too reactionary under Schoen. This will force them to be proactive

From @gmfb: The #Giants and Dexter Lawrence are at an “impasse,” as @RapSheet reported. It’s a standoff, with Lawrence putting on the pressure while the team holds firm on his deal that has two years remaining.

Schoen is a fool. He needs to be fired immediately. Harbaugh can’t be this dumb. Dexter is our best player. Our best draft pick in a long time. Has hall of fame potential and has proven it. I’m not sure what happened last season but he was still good. New regime. Clean slate. I would give him 3/90. Fully guaranteed. If he wants 26 that is a great deal. 28 would be a bargain. We have let him down. He has played next to garbage for years now. Get a good player next to him. I would think about two first round picks but anything less than that is a hard no. He’s that good. Look at the recent video from Clemson. He is trim and working hard. Get rid of Schoen. Daboll made him fat with his lazy coaching.

The difference between good and bad teams? Pride. Hardballing all your best players and allowing them to leave to save a couple millions is why the Giants will never go anywhere.
Sal WHO'S GOT IT BETTER THAN US?!@queens_guy

Eagles lead NFL with $390m of void year spending. The Giants are last with $0 in void year spending. Eagles pay everyone and go to the SB every 2-3 years. Giants discard their best players and always finish last. Bringing a knife to a gun fight. When does it stop? #NYGiants
