Spent the morning onboard a Kolkata tram, travelling from South to North Kolkata. Has the BJP been able to make inroads into the TMC bastion of South Bengal? What do the Bengali bhadralok make of this election? And what is the mood on the ground in one of India’s most politically aware cities? This was quite a memorable edition of NDTV Chai Stop. Do watch the show if you get a chance. @ndtv @ndtvindia

Latest from the @ndtv Datafy team. During Phase 1 voting of West Bengal, voter turnout increased across nearly all of the Assembly seats compared to 2021, with gains strongest in north and western seats. Southern Bengal also saw higher participation, but the rise there was relatively modest. Chandipur was the only constituency to record a slight decline in turnout.

Pradeep Gupta of Axis My India tells @ndtv that 6 out of 10 voters being approached are refusing to reveal who they voted for.
Typically, only about 10% of respondents decline to speak to pollsters. In West Bengal, that number was around 20% in the past. This time, it has more than doubled.
Gupta believes this reluctance to speak is what makes the West Bengal election extremely unpredictable — and very tough to call.
Catch Pradeep Gupta on @ndtv as he shares insights from the phase 1 seats after being on the ground.

In the heat of a frenzied West Bengal election, watch @ndtv #WalkTheTalk with renowned global investor, author and strategist Ruchir Sharma.
Beyond the noise of rallies and rhetoric, there’s a much bigger story unfolding. Oil prices are volatile, global markets are jittery, foreign investors are pulling money out, and the world economy is once again being shaped by geopolitics.
At a moment like this, how should India read the global signals? Is this just another market shock — or something more structural?
#WalkTheTalk coming soon on the NDTV network.
