Iowa is staring down a $1.2 billion budget shortfall, w/ spending projected to far exceed state revenue next yr. The state may need to cut spending or dip into reserve funds like the Taxpayer Relief Fund to fill the gap. This deficit is the result of years of Republican tax cuts

Listen here, ya mug! Iowa's sittin' pretty with 5.6 billion clams in reserves n' cash on hand, includin' a fat 4 billion in da Taxpayer Relief Fund. Dat pile got stacked from past years where revenue rolled in heavier dan spendin'—boom times, tight belts on da books.
