Every Christmas in Scotland we used to get 3 American comics collected into hardback annuals and every single boy at school got these. They must have sold a tonne. New original covers and inside covers done by UK great like Brian Bolland (pictured here).

@mrmarkmillar That’s one of those amazing covers that I constructed a whole narrative around in my head because it was advertised in the back of an annual but I couldn’t get a hold of it as a kid. One of the first I tracked down when I got some part-time cash.

I've always loved this Jim Aparo cover. Like Joe Kubert, he drew brightly coloured characters so rarely that it was always a treat to see him do it.

@mrmarkmillar Ha there was a few I couldn’t name in the 70s. The fun now is trying to work out where all the art was lifted from! I don’t recall ever seeing it reprinted in the US, not sure where it would appear, possibly something like FOOM, but I’ve no idea.

Yes! The 1977 British Marvel annuals were owned by every boy in my class when I was 7. I could proudly name all the heroes on the left with the exception of Killraven and Kid Colt. I always wonder who made this collage? Was it ever used in American comics?
