Good on the @CityofStJohns for adding art to Water Street this year but the bit on asphalt is literally on wheels so as to prevent it from having any permanent effect. A bit of paint would do wonders to signal the street as a place for people.

@ToniDray1 Yeah, there’s a big difference between being able to walk down the street and being able to walk to any of the places you need to go in the run of a day.

What are the chances anyone *in Galway*, let alone any other area, will be able to walk or bike to this place? Health is not isolated recreational facilities.

@ReVisionYYT The plan for Galway is to be a walkable community, shopping, entertainment, walking trails, parks and now sports complex. There is also plans for a school up there. It might be feel isolated to other parts of the city but it won’t for that part of the community

Good thread by Josh. Also important to recognize “neighbourhood character” isn’t about character of built environment but (perceived) character of people. We know this because there’s no max house size, ie nothing to prevent single family houses as big as du-, tri-, fourplexes.

I worry that a concern about protecting the character of these neighbourhoods is going to lead us to do the exact opposite. If new housing types aren't allowed, more and more people are going to be priced out until the "character" changes radically anyhow. (10/11)

Here’s a neat little feature of the HTA most people have no clue about. Almost all intersections have legal crosswalks with all the same requirements of marked ones. Just pretend there’s a lil yellow/red light there (and stop, to be clear).

@patches_s Not enough room for acres of surface parking I guess? The site’s 75% bigger than the existing St. Clare’s, and only part of that one’s built up.
