1. Follow your gut. Every. Single. Time.
2. Stay independent as long as you can. A label does virtually nothing you can’t do yourself.
3. Fan connection is arguably more important than any other aspect of your music.
4. You have to love what you do

I liked the Halsey album and think that was one of Fantano's worst takes ever. But I still have no beef with Fantano. Just one review who cares? Pitchfork had a similarly dismissive take on the album but nobody attacks artists when they do interviews with them.
