Hi Crime Watch. I am a married father of three living with a visual impairment, and my wife has a physical disability. We survive through vending and struggle to make ends meet. In August 2022, we were featured on a TV programme about people living with disabilities on ZBC TV. In December 2022, Bakerโ€™s Inn approached us and said they wanted to help us. They promised us a container shop and a chance to distribute their bread so we could earn a living. The container was delivered in December 2022, and we were told we would earn a commission of 5 cents per loaf. In April 2023, they also gave us a scooter to help with deliveries. However, we were expected to cover all the costs ourselves, including fuel, paying a driver, and securing the container, using only this small commission. We even had to pay a driver about US$300 while working towards daily targets. Despite working hard, the money we received did not match our sales. For example, in December 2023, after selling 17,060 loaves in about 18 days, we were paid only US$24.30 instead of about US$853 based on the agreed commission. Around December 2023, the company also started charging us US$115 per month for the container, even though it had been presented as support. Soon after, we were told that our account had a debt of over US$9,000. We were not clearly shown how this debt came about. In early 2024, we requested account statements and noticed errors, including duplicate charges and an unexplained opening balance of US$2,858.92. After disputing this, the amount was reduced to about US$5,568.46, but there were still figures we could not verify. The amount we could not account for was around US$2,400. Despite raising these concerns, Bakerโ€™s Inn stopped engaging with us and placed our account on hold, preventing us from continuing with the business. In 2026, after about three years, the company came and took back the container without any clear explanation. All the items that had been presented as help were taken back, and no legal ownership had ever been given to us. Because of this situation, we lost our source of income. We used our own resources trying to grow the business, and now we are left with nothing. Our family is struggling, and our child is no longer able to attend school. We feel that we were used for publicity rather than genuinely helped. We were given hope in December 2022, but by 2026, we were left worse off than before. We are asking for help and for Bakerโ€™s Inn to respond and explain what happened. @BakersInnZW

@elonmusk Thanks to Starlink, we've built the largest independent Starlink Retailer network (7 countries) in Africa, just by pure grit, no handouts. There's a lot of opportunities in the value chain. I decided I wanted to build a Starlink only store & experience, and went for it.

South Africa wonโ€™t allow Starlink to be licensed, even though I was BORN THERE, simply because I am not Black! We were offered many times the opportunity to bribe our way to a license by pretending that a Black guy runs Starlink SA, but I have refused to do so on principle. Racism should not be rewarded no matter to which race it is applied. Shame on the racist politicians in South Africa. They should be shown no respect whatsoever anywhere in the world and shunned for being unashamedly RACISTS!
DogeDesigner@cb_doge

Why Elon Musk is RIGHT to fight South Africaโ€™s racist rules blocking Starlink? Imagine this: Long ago, South Africa had very unfair laws called apartheid. They treated Black people badly and kept them from good jobs and money. When those bad laws ended, the country made new rules (called B-BBEE) to help Black people get a fair share of business. The idea was good โ€“ like a big helping hand. But now? For companies like Starlink to sell fast internet, they MUST give away 30% of their business to Black partners. Just because of skin color. Elon Musk was born in South Africa. He left as a teen to chase big dreams. Today, his company SpaceX wants to bring Starlink โ€“ super fast satellite internet โ€“ to South Africa. But the rules say no unless they give up part of the company. Elon said it right: โ€œStarlink is not allowed because Iโ€™m not Black.โ€ SpaceX promised to spend about $30 million (thatโ€™s 500 million rand!) to give FREE high-speed internet to 5,000 rural schools. That helps over 2.4 MILLION kids every year learn better, get jobs later, and have a brighter future. Real help for the people who need it most! Starlink already works in about 24 other African countries. Villages there now have internet for school, doctors, and business. South Africaโ€™s villages are missing out because of these racist rules. Elon isnโ€™t asking for special favors. He just wants fair play so Starlink can connect everyone fast. Internet = education, jobs, hope. Why hold back millions of kids over rules that pick by race and color?

FROM OUR INBOX๐Ÿ’”: I would like to share my very disappointing experience at Rollers Greenfields branch so other parents can be aware. This morning, I took my children there for a pre-birthday celebration. Upon arrival, we were given a price list, and the kids chose what they wanted. I was told that if I wanted to enter, I needed to purchase a $10 meal voucher. I declined and was instead offered seating outside with my mother while the kids went in to play. While seated outside, a waiter approached us with menus, but we were not interested in food. I only bought my mother a Coke while we waited. Shortly after, I needed to take my medication and used the remaining water I had in my bottle. I placed the bottle on the table, and the manager approached me and said outside beverages were not allowed. She asked me to either put the bottle away in my bag or hand it over to be kept at the counter. I explained that it didnโ€™t make sense to hand over an already opened bottle of water just to collect it later, and I even suggested they throw it away since I didnโ€™t have space in my bag. Despite this, the manager insisted the bottle could not remain on the table, citing a โ€œno outside food or drinksโ€ policy โ€” which, to my knowledge, was not clearly displayed. This was frustrating, especially considering that I had already spent $40 on games for the children and an additional $2 on a Coca-Cola purchased from them. Unfortunately, the situation got worse. After the supposed 50 minutes of playtime, my children came back saying many of the games were not working. The birthday boy lost his full 50 minutes, and the others also lost significant playtime due to faulty machines. When I asked management how their system tracks playtime or whether there was any accountability (such as logs or CCTV), I was told everything is recorded manually โ€” and they could not provide any clear evidence of usage. Instead of resolving the issue fairly, the manager only offered an additional 5 minutes to compensate for nearly 50 minutes lost. This entire experience was extremely disappointing. Not only did I feel that my money was not respected, but my children left upset and in tears on what was meant to be a special day. Rollers Greenfield, please do better. Parents work hard for their money and deserve proper service and functioning facilities. I hope sharing this helps other families make informed decisions.

Is it the law of unintended consequences or the intentions of the RBZ? Whichever way itโ€™s a good thing that the market fast dollarised in 2025. Companies reporting over 90% of revenue in USD is positive. The only issue is the USD inflation which stood at 12% in Dec 2025. While in the short term USD inflation is subdued itโ€™s evidently clear the rest of the year will be back above 10%. Itโ€™s a far better problem for companies than dealing with ZiG. How do we get depositors to use formal banks in Zim? Rather than keep money under the mattress or in SADC banks? Itโ€™s a shame total loans are still less than 2014 levels.

Divorce battle: Sonja seeks asset split and millions in maintenance from Wicknell Chivayo Sonja, the estranged wife of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, has filed for divorce, saying their marriage has completely broken down with no love, support, or relationship remaining between them. In court papers, she is asking for a fair โ€” and in some cases equal โ€” division of the wealth they built during the marriage. The assets listed include several luxury vehicles such as Rolls Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Lamborghini, and Range Rover models, multiple properties in Harare and South Africa, a private jet, and interests in several companies. She also claims that some assets may be hidden in companies or trusts and wants the court to include them when determining the full value of the estate. Sonja is seeking custody of their two children, while proposing that Chivayo be granted structured visitation rights, including weekends, holidays, and regular communication. In terms of financial support, she is requesting that Chivayo cover all the childrenโ€™s expenses, including education, medical care, clothing, food, internet access, and extracurricular activities. She is also demanding spousal maintenance of US$40,000 per month until she remarries, a once-off payment of US$25 million, and approximately US$1 million per year for holidays and lifestyle expenses. Additionally, she wants the court to award her ownership of some of the properties and order Chivayo to pay the legal costs of the case. The matter is now before the court for determination.

@Techzim Water resistance is a key use feature, it goes to safety, use scenarios etc. IP68 give submerged protection up to 30 mins, meaning you can take underwater shots, which we do. Its not good to say ppl should assume no water resistance

Is your phone truly waterproof? In short, no smartphone is ever truly waterproof; the term itself is a marketing myth that should be a red flag whenever you hear it. The closest you can get is a water-resistant phone. Even high-end devices are only water-resistant, meaning they rely on thin rubber gaskets and adhesive seals that naturally dry out and crack in our intense Zimbabwean heat or degrade every time the phone is dropped. While a flagship phone with an IP68 rating can survive a splash during a sudden Harare downpour or an accidental drop in a bucket for a few minutes, this protection is temporary and is only at its peak when the device is brand new. When buying a smartphone in Zimbabwe, you need to be extra cautious. If a phone has been opened for a screen repair or if the internal seals have perished, that water resistance is completely gone. Warranty will not cover water damage, even for "water-resistant" models, it is best to treat your phone as if it has no protection at all. Keep it bone-dry to protect your hard-earned USD. Ultimately, the only advantage of a higher IP rating is that the phone is statistically more likely to survive an accident compared to a lower-rated model, but it is never a guarantee.

Seeing the controversy generated by the proposed constitutional amendments, is it not time to consider a less divisive way forward that will allow a reset? The President could dissolve Parliament in terms of Section 158 as read with S143 of the Constitution and call for Parliamentary and Presidential elections before August 2026. No one is disqualified from contesting. The time served since August 2023 is less than 3 years and is thus not a term. Therefore, the incumbents will be entitled to contest without violating the Constitution. And the Constitution will be saved.

Talent Tarisai Zimbindi (39), a former Client Relationship Manager at Central African Building Society (CABS), has been sentenced by the Harare Magistratesโ€™ Court after stealing US$182,758 from the bank. Between August and October 2024, Zimbindi abused his position by processing loans that were meant for corporate clients and diverting the money to an account belonging to a company he controlled, Rozim Mining (Private) Limited. He then withdrew the money for personal use. The fraud was discovered after discrepancies were found in the bankโ€™s records, and investigations confirmed that US$182,758 had been stolen, with none of the money recovered. The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison, but six years were suspended under certain conditions, meaning he will serve an effective four-year jail term.
