Sliwa was the republican candidate, he won his primary, he was who his voters wanted. Cuomo was a baby who lost his primary and decided he’d throw a fit by running as an independent. Sliwa didn’t spit the vote. Cuomo did. If Sliwa dropped out that would have betrayed his voters

I’m hearing a lot of nail biting what Mamdani win means. Let’s be clear: if Curtis Sliwa had dropped out of the race today we would have had a Mayor Cuomo. It’s not just the Sliwa voters who would have gone to Cuomo—it’s also the demotivating effect on voters who for months kept hearing that Mamdani was definitely winning. When voters hear that Mamdani has a 95% chance of winning, they lose motivation to get out & vote. All of this is due to Sliwa.
