•Farm & Barrel Bistro (Middletown):
Newport Vineyards is debuting this new farm-to-table concept on May 8.
It replaces their previous dining program and is led by Executive Chef Kyle Johnson.
They’ll have a "field-to-fork" menu with ingredients from their own greenhouses, plus estate wines and Taproot beer.
•Claw & Hammer (Newport):
If you haven't been down to Thames Street lately, this "elevated seafood" spot just opened in the old Scales & Shells building. It’s focusing heavily on a stone crab program and a massive raw bar.
•Spring House Seafood Grill (Warwick):
If you’re heading to T.F. Green anytime soon, they just cut the ribbon on this new spot on April 28.
It’s a partnership with the famous Spring House Hotel on Block Island, meant to give travelers a "coastal vibe" before they fly.

In the "weird" category, a security camera at Candy’s Curiosities & Vintage in West Warwick captured a person walking down the street at 2:00 a.m. dressed in a full white pointed hood and robe. While the community is rightfully disgusted and the police are investigating it as a hate-related incident, the shop owner’s response on Facebook was classic Rhode Island defiance:

The "Bridge to Nowhere" gets its own Authority.
While everyone is stressed about the Washington Bridge, the General Assembly just gave preliminary approval to create a Crook Point Bridge Authority. This is for that rusty, iconic railroad bridge in Providence that’s been stuck in the "up" position for 50 years.

Some locals are joking that we're creating an entire government agency to manage a bridge that doesn't actually go anywhere, while the bridges people actually need to drive on are struggling. One proposal even suggests lighting it up with multicolored rainbow lights to make it a "monument to decrepit stuff."

The May 1st Disaster: On May 1, 1960, a U-2 plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers was shot down by a Soviet surface-to-air missile over Sverdlovsk. The U.S. government, assuming Powers had died and the plane was destroyed, issued a formal statement claiming a "weather research plane" had simply drifted off course after the pilot reported oxygen difficulties.
