Writers will share their ‘great notes’ and the notes will be like “the characters feel real and the dialogue is crisp and sounds like how people talk” or “the story is gripping and kept me on the edge of my seat!” Which are not notes. These are words in a sentence (just barely).

I've always said you can only call yourself something when you get paid for it. Write a sceenplay? Fun! But until you sell it, you are not a screenplay writer. Same goes for filmmaker, director, etc. Anything unpaid is just an expensive hobby. I think that sort of realistic viewpoint would help a lot of misguided dreamers.

I wonder what inspires a person with very little experience/knowledge to go on screenwriting Twitter and present themselves as a guru. I've been doing this longer than I care to admit, and I am TERRIFIED to give advice... 1/2 🧵
