I was fresh on the job when I heard @ChrisDunkerLJS tell a source: "You don't get to decide what goes in the newspaper." He was right. They did not. We did. My favorite stories are those I wrote w/ Chris, writing things folks in power didn't want printed. More of that to come.

Elsewhere in the piece, the author notes that Colorado is trimming its 15 day waiting period, because too many people died before killing themselves over those two weeks. 5280.com/medical-aid-in…

In this feature on MAiD, one man seeking death insists it’s for his wife’s sake, even as she asked him to delay and says: "I'm here to take care of that. How can you have guilt about being sick?"

Dave Bundy was a great journalist, a great boss and a great person. I wish I didn't have to write his obituary, but I was honored to do so. He was an asset to @JournalStarNews and #LNK. Today marks a special milestone for me: 20 years to the day that I returned for my second stint at @JournalStarNews. Here's the front page from Feb. 1, 2005, showing the story I wrote on my 1st day (1/31). Later this year, in September, I'll mark 30 years in the newspaper biz.

Saying no one carries a baby to term and then has an abortion depends on how you define “term” Babies delivered at 32 weeks are expected to survive. Dr. Warren Hern performs abortions up to 32 weeks Per Hern, half of his patients have healthy babies. theatlantic.com/politics/archi…

@MaryAnn4NE Maybe we need the law to correct doctors who switch from caring for two patients to only one patient when the smaller patient is no longer wanted and needs to die. Abortion is not health care.

@ChrisMBowling And EPS gave its clients more than $120k in material aid (latest 990 form) to say nothing of the support its staff and classes provided to these women - many of whom have little to no support. Is supporting these pregnant women not anti-poverty?!

@ChrisMBowling Seems like a lot of data is missing from this piece on the actual maternity support provided by care centers - car seats, infant and maternity clothes, education. Here’s a snippet from the online audited financials of Women’s Care Center that opened an Omaha location last year.

The State of Nebraska has spent nearly $5 million funding crisis pregnancy centers with anti-poverty money. Some say the program is about helping needy women. Others, including a group in charge of the program, say it's really about curbing abortions. flatwaterfreepress.org/helping-needy-…

@kohenari Isn’t one of the lessons of the Civil Rights movement and how it organized that knowing exactly whom is being harmed by the state and its unjust policies is helpful in changing public opinions/attitudes?

Scenes from a recent city council meeting in Lincoln, Nebraska. Apparently it’s routine. They’ve painted their hands red and covered their faces. In their testimony, they mostly refuse to identify themselves “for their safety.” I don’t understand this phenomenon at all.

admirable restraint from Monica as she expertly, calmly, and precisely deconstructs much of the nonsense we've seen since the publication of the JAMA Peds study. if there's any justice in our abortion discourse (and there basically isn't), her perspective here should go viral
Secular Pro-Life@secularprolife

When pro-choicers claim the Texas Heartbeat Law increased infant mortality, they mean the law prevented abortions, including those of children with congenital anomalies, some of whom died in infancy instead.

@ChrisDunkerLJS Wouldn’t making abortion at any stage of pregnancy a fundamental right in Nebraska make it eligible for Medicaid coverage aka tax payer dollars?
