He added: “Yesterday, a man in his 70s spoke to me. He’d only voted twice before in his life. He said he’d be voting for Reform. “In future, I want to be able to say with a clear conscience that I did my best for this wonderful country. I’ll work for all residents - everyone.”

Stephen Atkinson added: “I will try to make life better for all people in Lancashire. Putting them first. People are so frustrated with career politicians. “Big parties has focused on global topics like net zero, immigration and overseas aid. British people felt forgotten,”

He added: “When I was out leafleting for @reformparty_uk recently , I’ve never experienced such warmth in campaigning from the public. A lady came down the street, clasped my hands and said thank you, thank you, thank you. - three times. I’ve never experienced such appreciation.”

He added: “I wanted to go to @reformparty_uk . It was a matter of conscience. I could have chosen an easier division to stand but I chose where I live. Previously, the Conservative who represented it had a majority of over 2,000. Today’s results are like climbing Mount Everest,”

Stephen Atkinson told me: “I thought long and hard about @reformparty_uk . I wasn’t planning to be a county councillor. But a while ago my son said there was no future for him in this country. He was thinking about emigrating. We need to shake the system. Radical change.”
