@SusieM414141 Southwest has assigned seats? We always did boarding groups... is this new?

This woman is on a Southwest Airlines flight that was obviously not full, so she decided to switch seats. Now they are telling her she has to go back to her assigned seat or get off the flight. If a flight is not full, should people be allowed to switch seats? It used to not be a problem, but maybe when there is an unfortunate crash it becomes harder to identify people.

Oh, so in the DECADES where I used to have little if any problem switching seats, and on multiple different airlines, we were being "unsafe." Okay. 🙄 I guess those FAs back then were just throwing caution to the wind and being reckless. Sure, sure. I understand the load balancing concern, but if its only a small handful moving around, and people aren't congregating in one specific cabin area and/or side, it's not as dramatic as you're making it out to be. It's being overstated.

@SusieM414141 It is always a problem. The aircraft performance and flight characteristics are calculated on a CG. You need to be in the seat you are assigned for the safety of the flight.

@SusieM414141 Welllll…if it’s a crash, do you think the body is gonna end up in the same seat because it was assigned?

Funny how SWA didn't really care if you did this until they changed from the open seating model to assigned. I flew SWA quite a bit in the 2010s and would do this all the time. No one cared as long as the captain had turned off the fasten seat belts light, and the FAs weren't trying to do drink/meal service in the aisles. I think it has more to do with them implementing this seating/ticketing model transition (which is a massive change for them). They want to dissuade those who think they can buy the cheapest fare, but who would then switch to a better seat as soon as they hit cruising altitude, otherwise there are quite a few travelers who would do exactly that if no one told them no.

@SusieM414141 You can't switch seats. All kinds of legal matters for identifying someone acting up or dead in a crash. If I am in the wrong seat they could continue searching the wrekage for weeks thinking I was tossed out.

It's not just them unfortunately. It's been my experience that all of our domestic airlines changed for the worse after the covid insanity. FAs in particular seem to have really grabbed onto the whole "I have power over these people - people who used to make my life difficult, but now the tables have turned" mentality. To be clear: SOME of them, not all. I can't stand people who talk down to or abusively towards FAs, waitresses, hotel clerks, retail workers, etc, but I also can't stand to see the same type of vitriol with the only difference being a reversal of roles. There are plenty of videos online of FAs abusing the power they've been given, and I'm sure many of you reading this know exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about. The ones where you can tell they're really enjoying having power over other people. Thankfully this is the exception and not the rule, but it's also not super rare. It's a shame people can't be more respectful to one another in a setting like being trapped in a tin can for hours at a time. Makes the experience much less distressing when people act like decent human beings, but many things have changed over the past couple decades sadly.

Guests are people we invite into our homes. Customers pay. They're not guests. On an airline "passenger" or "customer" is the preferred term and makes the most sense. No arguments with the rest. Some might dismiss this as semantics, but I know I am not along in being annoyed at how "guest" has been warped in the past couple decades to have a new definition. A customer has a right to speak up when things aren't right, IE they're not getting something they paid for. A guest does not have an innate right to complain. They are, by definition, free loaders who were invited to be freeloaders, because we invited them to do so, generally because we either enjoy their company, or they're family, or ideally both.

Airplanes are private property and customers are guests. The condition of that includes following the reasonable directions of the flight crew. There are a number of reasons one may be asked to take their assigned seat. The crew may but is not required to explain it... Weight and balance, inop equipment, because they want to... all valid.

Where's the notice then? LL was kind of vague. Is he saying notice was verbal? Professional LLs generally know better.... I learned a long time ago not to take people at their word on things like this. A LL who knows what he's doing will want to cover his butt in case things progress into a courtroom, so generally it's a written notice posted on the door + take a photo of the notice posted on the door to prove it happened (and when it happened, since there's a digital timestamp on the photo). But he didn't seem to reference any such written notice. Was notice given verbally?

But now we're in a he said/she said (and I get that this weird dude, whoever he is, isn't exactly highly credible at this point to put it mildly). So was WRITTEN notice given as is the law just about everywhere? Where's the notice? Why didn't LL refer to a notice he posted on the door if he did indeed post one as dictated by the law? Barring exigent circumstances (like a fire, or someone yelling "help!") a LL can't enter without first giving that notice. So much of this hinges on that question: was it given, in what form, and if it was written then where is it (IE is there proof one even existed, because you can't just take people at their word in these cases. Too many people will lie if they think they can get away with it, which is why you should document, document, document to CYA)

@RickyFizz77 @ClownWorld Yes he can, if he gave 24 hour notice, or had permission from the actual tenant. Which is said he did.

@ClownWorld If he made arrangements, then why isn't the tenant there? Or, why doesn't the guy that is there know the landlord is coming with the promised microwave to install?

@ClownWorld (In most states) Landlord has to give 48hrs notice and then they can enter whether you're there or not. If it's been arranged in advance as it is here then they don't even need to do that much. Team landlord. /gavel

I don't know what state this is, but even in my very pro-LL tilted state (wrt our landlord-tenant laws), a 24+ hour notice is required before entry like this, barring emergency circumstances. Installing a microwave isn't an emergency. Notice should've been given. Screaming MFer in front of the little girl isn't helping his cause with me either. Not a good look. LL is out of line here.

@AVGirl4Life No. Our problem is SPENDING. Historically, the more we increase revenue, the more ways the politicians find creative new ways to spend it. Cut spending before any talk of increasing revenue. I'd much rather explore TARIFFS over taxation. Trump is barking up the right tree.

@MensHumor Yes, that is clearly a "time to update my Indeed profile" moment. No one wants to work for someone like that. 6 months of notice is incredibly thoughtful on the part of the employee. Unless you literally have no other options, you jump ship and find someone who respects you.

People have asked about the numbers I have mentioned. Estimates are as high as 50 million illegal aliens. Last August, the State Department mentioned 55 million foreign visa holders. Out of the 105 million total, how many should we remove? (Repost for wider sample)
