We were thrown together on the radio and hit it off. I only saw him mad once, when I made him play 6-a-side! A one off, an inspiration who didn’t let achievement define him. He showed me how to be a better man, better dad and better dressed. We will miss him. RIP Joe Thompson.

Got to know Joe quite well working at the EFL and doing Squad Goals together at BBC. In 2019 he won the EFL’s Sir Tom Finney Award and this clip from our interview has stayed with me ever since. He was without doubt one of the strongest (and nicest) people on this planet 💙
