I know there is a lot of anxiety about fuel security, and I want to assure Western Australians that my Government is doing everything it can to address these concerns.
These new measures will ensure WA’s interests are protected at the national level and that we keep WA strong.
The appointment of a Fuel Security State Controller and establishment of a State Management Team will facilitate coordination across both State Government agencies and with the Commonwealth Government, in the delivery of WA’s fuel security response.
This morning the Prime Minister convened a meeting of National Cabinet.
It was an important step forward to drive national coordination on fuel security and fuel supply.
These are difficult times for all Australians. We are faced with complex challenges in our community amid ever-changing threats.
But my Government is dedicated to keeping Western Australians safe.
I understand the confronting scenes those protestors would have faced. Police were not attempting to silence your community.
But it has been alleged that one man was - through an act of terror.
Last Monday, a man allegedly threw a home-made bomb into a crowd of people peacefully protesting in the heart of Perth city.
Thankfully, it did not detonate.
But for that, we could have seen a mass casualty event with injuries and potential loss of life.
