The NYT is reporting that VP JD Vance told Trump before striking Iran, "You know I think this is a bad idea, but if you want to do it, I'll support you." According to the NYT, Vance initially argued for a limited strike, but when it became clear that the President had decided to attack, pushed for overwhelming force on the basis that it would prevent a protracted conflict. As of now, all of the Israeli objectives promised to Trump have failed, with the Israelis pressing for an even longer campaign. Susie Wiles, CoS, argued that a prolonged conflict over high oil prices could determine the remainder of the President's term and detract from domestic issues. According to the NYT, Vance warned of several risks attached to intervention, including depleted stockpiles, high casualties, political infighting among the Trump coalition, the difficulty of forging a peace deal with Iran after the fact, and soaring gas prices due the likely closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
