Update on the Colorado Age Attestation bill: Everyone that participated in the meeting last week submitted proposed changes to the bill. They included good ideas to improve consumer protection and privacy and exempting open source software. Sen. Ball responded this morning that they'll now draft potential amendments. I think we're making good progress. I'm off for a ski weekend with the kids. Have a great weekend everyone!

Is debugging through OpenOCD really that slow when going through JTAG?

Hardware is all fun and games until you run into timing issues, non-deterministic behavior, and over complicated designs to work around stupid bugs.

Tech companies pay a lot of money for CI servers and then have a bunch of super powerful Mac hardware sitting idle for 16 hours a night. Hm.

Yep, and that system will be solid. The only issue I've had is a lack of enough memory. Really wish Apple would allow for memory upgrades. I don't feel like spending $2k for a new machine just for more RAM. You should install COSMIC, it plays very nicely with the GPU on Apple Silicon and the out of the box experience is perfect.

Wow. Install experience of #asahi was seamless. 10 hour battery life ? 600 M2 laptop from Craigslist. I'm sold. How can I contribute. #Nix is on Fedora officially too.

@kmcnam1 When I had a laptop with an NVIDIA GPU, sure. But I've been on Apple Silicon and 10 minute is a lot.

@carlrichell That's great, I really hope it works out. Open source definitely needs to live on.

@RossComputerGuy We hope to make sensible, strong arguments for excluding open source which then becomes a standard for other states. It's going to be difficult.

Went to the capitol today to meet Sen Ball, Rep Paschal, Rep Ricks, and three additional Denver constituents with concerns about SB26-051's effect on open source software, privacy, and security. It was an hour and a half meeting that could have gone longer if it weren't for the building being shut down. Our concerns were heard and shared. The next step is exchanging and discussing specific language changes to the bill including an exemption for open source software.
