Jury makes a number of critical findings in connection with Robert Young’s death. A six-day inquest into the death of Robert Young concluded in April. After the evidence was heard, Senior Coroner Zafar Siddique decided that Article 2 was engaged due to arguable breaches by the police and ambulance services. The jury concluded that Mr Young’s death was by suicide and criticised several aspects of the response by emergency services. The family was represented by Ruby Peacock (@RubyPeacock19), instructed by Lucie Boase and Nicola Miller of @BJCSolicitors. Read more here: doughtystreet.co.uk/news/jury-make…

Today at the COVID Inquiry @RubyPeacock19 from @DoughtyStreet, representing @The_TUC and instructed by Thompsons, asked questions of Steve Rotherham, Mayor of Liverpool, about the Time Out to Help Out campaign, which called on the government to support lower paid and self-employed workers when considering whether they could afford to self-isolate during the pandemic. The initiative was backed by @The_TUC, @unisontheunion , @GMB_union , @UsdawUnion , @unitetheunion and the @CWUnews. Mr Rotherham confirmed that it wasn't the case that Central Government didn't respond adequately. It was the case that they simply didn't respond. #CovidInquiry

My view/hope is that the government's attempts to oust JR of immigration detention using s.13 Illegal Migration Act 2023 are futile, because habeas corpus can fill the gaps left. I set this view out in more detail in the below post. Thoughts welcome! insights.doughtystreet.co.uk/post/102imvf/h…

Coronial powers and the rights of the unborn (Part 2). In this two-part article our @MayaSikandKC, @TomStoate, and @RubyPeacock19, explore two difficult questions arising from the inquest into the ‘harrowing circumstances’ of the death of a baby, Aisha Cleary, at HMP Bronzefield. The first part explored whether coroners should have jurisdiction to investigate stillbirths. This second part seeks to answer the question: should foetuses ever be protected by a ‘derivative’ right to life? Read Part 2 🔽 insights.doughtystreet.co.uk/post/102ilyw/c…
