A letter sent by Albuquerque on 20/10/1514 to King Manuel I of Portugal informing him about the situation in the Red Sea and suggesting that the king should not make trade agreements with the rulers of Berbera and Zeila, but instead occupy them and force their rulers to submit and pay tribute. He sent it after Emir Mahfuz refused to ally with him against the Mamluks and his scheme to attack Jeddah and Medina and dig up the Prophet’s grave

The Portuguese commander (Afonso de Albuquerque) then sent two ships under Rui Caetofa and Joao Gomes to Zaila in 1514. They met the governor of the city (most likely Emir Mahfuz) and asked him to side with the Portuguese and help them, When he refused, they bombarded Zaila and set the port’s timber on fire.

I had a bad dream. I saw Al Jazeera’s #TV_headquarters in Doha being bombed. Iran denied responsibility and accused Israel, while Israel also denied responsibility and blamed Iran. Luckily, there was no loss of life, and Doha did not blame either country. Then, I was still watching #Al_Jazeera’s TV coverage as if nothing had happened. I asked, “How?” The answer was that Doha had anticipated this #possibility and had created multiple stations with equal capacity. Then I said, “That’s a smart move.” @AJEnglish @AJArabic @MofaQatar_EN

Somaliland first 💚🤍❤️
This is a remarkable piece of history Dr. Hussien Ali Hanfi is in Washington, DC, where he experienced a deeply emotional and unforgettable reunion. On April 9, 2026, he met Professor Jeanne D’Heam—his first-grade teacher from 1968 at Arabsiyo District Primary School in the Gabiley Region of the Republic of Somaliland. In late 1968, Hussien Ali Hanfi was one of students at Arabsiyo Primary School, then known as Ahmed Guray. At the time, Professor Jeanne D’Heam was part of a pioneering group of Peace Corps educators sent to the Somali Republic during the 1960s to support education and community development. She made history as the first Peace Corps teacher assigned to Arabsiyo, where she dedicated herself to nurturing and inspiring young minds. Her work formed part of a broader educational initiative supported by USAID, which funded and completed Arabsiyo Middle School in 1965.

Leaked contract: Türkiye is exploiting Somalias weak Government • Turkey takes 90% of the oil output before any sharing, and only when it recoups its inevitable expenses, including security no timeline. • Somalia gets ~5% royalty, with no local jobs. • Disputes go to Istanbul courts, not Somalia law. • Turkey can export and sell freely abroad without Somalia’s permission. • The deal bypasses parliament and violates the constitution.

Over the past 15 years, Turkey has enticed the Mogadishu elite to invest in Turkey, lavished them with citizenship and access. Today those privileges have bought Turkey strategic silence from the Mogadishu elite even as Ankara becomes more adventurous and strategically intrusive.
Adam@adancabdulle

Turkey is no longer a mere spectator in Somalia’s internal affairs. It’s an active participant and the Hotel Jazeera Group’s failure to comment about Ankara’s increasingly kinetic involvement in Somalia’s internal politics is quite telling.

Somalians didn't only use a fake union and stole Somaliland's sovereignty, they oppressed us for 20 years (1960-1980), terrorised us in a war for 10 years (1981-1991), and genocided tens of thousands of our people. And they still continue to make the false claims.
Eslander@Eslanderkow

Somalilanders universally know Somalis as 'Wallaweyn', naming them after a small town between Afgoi and Baidoa in the Shabelle river valley. There is a fascinating and informative story about how Landers came to call Somalis after this town. And it is about fraud. No disrespect to ordinary Somalis, but there is a history of socio-political malaise that primarily harms them, and sometimes harms others.
