Today marks 54 years since the riots which began with a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, and were a catalyst for the modern gay rights movement. I love this photo by Fred McDarrah taken outside the Stonewall in the days following the raid.

Happy birthday to Alice Anderson (right)! In 1919 she started an all-female garage in Melbourne, which taught women how to drive and service cars. Here she is in 1919, according to her sister, "pretending to be the boyfriend" of another young woman. #queerhistory #PrideMonth
