Creating meaningful social connections with children in your community is invaluable to their growth and well-being. Children benefit from having lots of adults in their lives that they trust and who make them feel safe. Check out the Child Welfare Gateway for recommendations.

It’s Tip Tuesday! Your support as a bystander can change the intensity of a situation. Follow our simple KIDS acronym for ideas about how you might help: K (offer kind words) I (intervene directly) D (distract) or S (seek help). A few encouraging words can go a long way.

We hosted a virtual training this month with @faceitabuse (faceitabuse.org). It’s wonderful to have such great partners in this work who understand that even a small gesture of support can go a long way toward helping struggling families.

We help children have positive childhood experiences by changing how we use our words and by teaching children how to handle big emotions. When a child is struggling, spend a few minutes validating the way they must feel. When kids feel heard, they’re better able to calm down.
