@yukitxnda I think the tax he pays is teaching the pebbles on Erid. As well as being an interteller alien for them to study. Plus all of the information/ technology he was able to give them. Like, Eridans didn’t know anything about radiation or relativity.

My favourite part of the flashbacks is that you are seeing only what he has the capacity to recall. Small details like what exactly he was doing during this conversation get lost in the cracks, but he remembers where they were and what they said to each other.
