@LostinDolGuldur @Mikiashvili_M This is how part of Sofia looked in the year of liberation - 1878. After that, all Bulgarian governments were focused on rebuilding / building the country following western models. A lot of French and Austrian architects were invited to design buildings.

@SSavoff @Mikiashvili_M I'm constantly amazed that places under turkish occupation don't have any sensible traces of urbanism. A few mosques here and there but everything is previous or post turkish rule. Where did people live? Wooden huts? 🤷

Sofia is quite underappreciated as a destination. It's relaxed, green, with great architecture, nice food, and apparently very nice clothes shops.

@LostinDolGuldur @Mikiashvili_M It's a weird mix because Sofia has ruins from Roman Empire, then pre-WW2 western architecture, a lot of soviet style buildings and then some modern ones.

@Mikiashvili_M Ok, I get what you mean. It's a matter of preference I guess. The lack of a historic center and medieval buildings due to ottoman domination is a downturn for me. 🤷
