So the school counselor just called me to ask if I was aware that my daughter planned and led a student protest today where 100+ students walked out of their 3rd period to hold a BLM rally on the yard bc they feel teachers treat the black students different & unfairly. She’s 12😭

The best educators identify when a student is intent on something but choosing a useless way to address it that could get them in trouble, and instead offers to further educate the student on their own time, for free, and show them how to be successful with their quest. A crap educator says, oh they are 12, let them do what they want because I’ll get out of teaching a class at least.

SAD UPDATE:💔 Justice for Jada West 12-year-old Jada West has tragically passed away after a fight that started at school and continued after getting off the bus in Douglas County, Georgia. Her family says she had been dealing with b*llying for months. Shortly after the altercation, she collapsed and later died in the hospital. I’d TEACH her rhetoric and persuasion. Then, I’d show her when and where the school board meets. I’d volunteer to work with her and her friends after school drafting 3 min statements to address the board and I’d even show up to support them. Imagine the difference that experience would make instead of a performative nuisance for an entire school.
