The jerk test evaluates for glenoid labral tears! The examiner stabilizes the scapula with one hand and grasps the elbow with the other. The arm is positioned in 90° of elevation with internal rotation, and an axial compression force is applied through the humerus via the elbow while maintaining horizontal abduction. Keeping this compressive load, the examiner then moves the arm into horizontal adduction. The test is considered positive if it reproduces the patient’s pain, with or without an associated clicking sensation. Sensitivity is 73%, specificity 98%!
