Did you know that Fairuz’s father was an Assyrian Christian genocide survivor from Mardin who fled with his parents during the Assyrian Genocide—only to reach Lebanon while it was still under Ottoman rule? 💔
Fairuz is more than a singer—she is a legendary icon of the Middle East, a voice that carries history within it. 🖤
For many Assyrian Christian families, escape did not mean safety.
They carried their pain across borders, only to live under the same empire they had fled. 💔
It was not just one tragedy—it was suffering repeated.
Between 1914 and 1923, around 3.5 million Christians—Assyrians, Armenians, Greeks, and Maronites—lost their lives. 💔
Entire communities were erased, and survivors carried wounds that would echo through generations. 😔
Perhaps this is why Fairuz’s voice feels so deeply emotional.
A quiet sadness, a timeless longing, a memory that lives through music. 🎶
Her songs carry echoes of exile, loss, and the search for belonging.
Yet within that sorrow, there is pride.
The pride of survival.
The pride of identity.
The pride of a people who endured—and are still here. ✊
Fairuz is not just a voice.
She is memory, resilience, and the echo of a people who refused to disappear. 🖤

These are not just translations.
They are replacements.
Over the last century, Aramaic place names were systematically erased and replaced through state policies.
A name is not just a word.
It carries identity, history, and memory.
Change the name and you begin to erase a people.
This thread restores what was never lost.
This is Mëdyad.
Not “Midyat.”
A name older than modern states still alive in our language. The capital of Tur Abdin (The moderland of Syriacs).

The Brutal Murder of Bishop Thomas Audo, The Man Who Compiled The First Modern Syriac Dictionary.
At the height of the Assyrian genocide on July 31, 1918, the Turkish army entered Urmia.
80,000 Assyrian Christians fled toward British lines.
Bishop Thomas Audo was the Chaldean Archbishop of Urmia who spent his life compiling the first modern dictionary of the Assyrian language.
He was born in the Assyrian village of Alqosh & his Uncle was the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch.
As the Turks advanced on Urmia, Bishop Audo stayed behind at a French Mission.
He was soon stripped naked and marched through the streets.
A Persian from the village of Balar entered the Mission demanding money & shot the Bishop through his cheek.
Kurdish soldiers soon arrive and tear the beards of other priests out, lashing them with whips.
A priest, Fr Paul Sliwa, had his ear was cut off by the Kurds.
Audo was taken to the American hospital. It was there that Turkish soldiers decided to beat the already wounded Bishop.
He would soon die from blood poisoning.

English

Kurdish nationalists on Twitter are so weird.
They post stuff like this, then they post how Kurds are and have been oppressed, betrayed, killed, etc. by so many different peoples throughout history.
