Well said. When the founder himself steps in, you know it's urgent. His emphasis on agents is telling. It signals we're nearing the end of the LLM race itself. The foundation has been laid, and base models should now be treated as infrastructure. The real work ahead is building on top of them: agents with auto-update loops, and monetizing that layer. Think of it this way: Windows 95 was a base platform. If agents had existed back then, we'd be in an entirely different place today. Agents unlock the full capability of LLMs , they're where the leverage is. What the founder is really pushing is a shift in focus: stop polishing the base, start shipping outcomes through agents. Incumbents with bloated research orgs are going to feel this first. Expect meaningful layoffs at Google within the next 6–9 months as the strategy catches up with the new reality

this is what panic looks like at a 2 trillion dollar company. Google just pulled Sergey Brin out to lead a strike team. the mission isn't ranking pages. it's catching Anthropic on coding. think about how wild that sentence is. the founder of Google, the guy who built the largest search engine in history, is now personally chasing a 4 year old startup on AI coding. here's the part that makes it bigger than it looks. Google didn't pick reasoning. didn't pick multimodal. didn't pick search. they picked coding. because coding is the one capability that compounds. a model that codes well can write better models. better models can train themselves. that loop is the actual path to AGI. the internal memo says it directly: "to win the final sprint, we must urgently bridge the gap in agentic execution and turn our models into primary developers." translation. the AI that writes the next AI is the one that wins. so when Google pulls Sergey out of retirement to chase Anthropic, they're not saying we want better autocomplete. they're saying Anthropic might be the one that builds the model that builds AGI. and we cannot let that happen. the AI race stopped being about who has the smartest chatbot a long time ago. it's now about who controls the AI that builds every AI after it.
