Anyone to help w a glass problem? This is #KarlParsons at #Saintfield. Who is the character in green? His legend says 'Never was in his heart but pity, peace and mercy' which is v similar to a line from William Blake. Also, why does the top left angel have waves? Thank you.

3/3 'Right dear in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints' The memorial to Edith Cavell in Peterborough Cathedral, 'placed here by the Teachers, Pupils and Friends of her old School in Laurel Court'. Cavell was shot by a German firing squad in Belgium #OTD 12 October 1915.

Edith Cavell, shot in Belgium #OTD 12 October 1915, in glass by Douglas Strachan at All Saints, Jesus Lane, Cambridge. The national mourning for Cavell was intense, wrapped up in what was still largely a positive attitude towards the War. Increasingly universal literacy and the new mass circulation newspapers meant that her story could be followed in a way that would have been impossible a few decades before. Like Captain Robert Falcon Scott, she became a phenomenon. 1/3

@jeelyeater1 @Sarahlear10 @YalePevsner @ArtHistoryYork We've also found this third slide in our small uncatalogued collection. It shows St Luke with winged ox above, presumably also from Whitekirk. Would certainly be interested to learn more about these windows too and if KP produced them shortly before being conscripted in 1916.

We have in our archive a small collection of unlabelled 35mm photographic slides showing exteriors and interiors of Scottish churches and some stained glass, like this one. Does anyone out there recognise this beautiful piece and know where it is/was located? #StainedGlassSunday

@jeelyeater1 @YalePevsner Thanks Nancy. We've also now found, among the jumble of uncatalogued slides, the companion window showing St Andrew. Really beautiful work by Parsons.

Just booked into this because God said I was being a bit Linda Snellish. Entertained by the Quakers offering a discount for young people doing the course (!), checking my pronouns and asking me to tell them why I want to do it. Good on them. woodbrooke.org.uk/courses/quaker…
