@mtgilchrist Read my first tweet Todd. There's nothing devastating, nefarious, or trashing. Good night.
English

@Schofizzy Maybe I’m missing it but I don’t see them drawing broad conclusions about teachers based on anecdotal evidence of a conversation they once had or classes they once attended. So by all means, keep trashing their integrity and their work ethic.
English

@Schofizzy I think “people, including critics, gather after screenings to share their thoughts, and sometimes make points that affect each other’s opinions” is not the devastating revelation you think it is.
English

@mtgilchrist It's never wavered. Is that unclear? People talk after movies and I've witnessed time and time again the loudest person sway others. 🤷🏻
English

@Schofizzy Ok. But what does that have to do with your original claim that there's a "hive mind" among critics? I thought we were discussing whether or not critics agreed to a consensus opinion, not determining the ethnographic make up of the most obnoxious people at press screenings.
English

@mtgilchrist Agreed, there's no conspiracy. But after a movie, is there someone trying to be the loudest and most important in the room? Yes! Are they usually male and white? ABSOLUTELY.
English

@Schofizzy But I reject the idea that there is a conspiracy, much less any sort of design or plan, to align critical reactions. And this phantom example of people talking after a screening doesn't evidence collusion, it reflects natural curiosity.

St. Louis County is 25% Black. I don’t see 1 Black person there.
If demographics were reversed & white people made up 25% of a county, better believe they could delay any progressive Black legislation.
These ppl would cheer this loud if apartheid & enslavement were reinstated.

St.Louis County Council votes to end mask mandate.
English

@mtgilchrist That is fodder in the world of % critics created.
English

@Schofizzy Respectfully, you're mistaking "people choosing not to/ not caring enough to disagree publicly" with "critics getting their opinions in line with those of a loud colleague." These are anecdotal scenarios, not gatherings to agree upon takeaways or talking points.
English

@mtgilchrist I think you aren't wrong to a fault, however I've witnessed the opposite happen too many times. Quiter agree. Rest nod. Loudest becomes the norm. Sad.
English

@Schofizzy What, a receptivity to points they may not have considered in a casual post-screening conversation? There's no grand conspiracy. That's human nature. No one's angling to express an opinion that isn't theirs. And certainly not to capitulate to groupthink.
