@ConnorM993 @jeffreisig Typical claim to sound like 47 isn’t bad. Texas like most states allows theft to be aggregated. Meaning you can add up the theft incidents and make it a felony. Not so in CA. So 5 times of stealing $900 is not a felony. 47 is in fact to blame.

Every consumer in California now pays higher prices because of rampant theft. At this point, tougher laws, more cops & more lockups seem like a good trade. #California #Crime #RetailTheft

Spot on Jeff Reisig. Gun violence is rampant because of all the illegal guns on the streets, many being carried by felons. And yet we continue to go weak on those who wreak havoc on our communities. And letting them out early is a recipe for disaster.
Jeff Reisig@jeffreisig

In all my time as DA, I can’t recall a single case where a CCW holder committed a crime in public with their licensed gun. The real problem in CA is that too many criminals & prohibited persons possess guns and are not going to prison long enough. sacbee.com/news/politics-…

@emily_hoeven @GavinNewsom Novel thought-hold them accountable, quit releasing on zero bail and for goodness sakes-stop releasing them early after serving a fraction of their sentence. And get those with addiction mandatory drug treatment.

NEW: @GavinNewsom says CA is poised to make largest-ever single investment to combat organized retail theft: $267M to 55 law enforcement agencies. "When shameless criminals walk out of stores with stolen goods, they’ll walk straight into jail cells," Newsom says in statement.

It’s time for California to classify domestic violence for what it is: a “violent” crime. Research shows that more than two-thirds of US mass shootings are committed by someone with a history of domestic violence. sfchronicle.com/opinion/articl…
Supervisor Katrina Foley@SupervisorFoley

It’s disturbing to now learn that the suspect killed his wife or ex wife during an argument. Another domestic dispute led to another mass shooting. We must do more to prevent senseless acts of gun violence and protect survivors.

@ZavalaA How about we actually hold people accountable, quit letting them out early after serving a fraction of their sentence and get those addicted to drugs the treatment they desperately need.

BREAKING: @shannongrove's #SB14, to classify child trafficking as a "serious" felony, has been placed on the Appropriations Suspense File -- where, in a few weeks, the bill will either be passed and/or amended, or killed, without a peep. Context on bill: sfchronicle.com/opinion/articl…

#CarmellaG is spot on. Our AG loves to take credit claiming “it won’t be tolerated” yet supports early release of violent criminals and refuses to call HT and DV violent crimes.
CarmellaG@CarmellaG3

@AGRobBonta If you want to grab the headlines for the work of real law enforcement officers, then STOP SUPPORTING EARLY RELEASE OF PRISONERS and support making HT a violent felony!

Interesting: @AGRobBonta promotes arrest of a Sacramento man who was trafficking a minor. This follows an uproar in the Capitol after Democrats on an Assembly committee killed, then passed, a bill to make child trafficking a "serious" felony. oag.ca.gov/news/press-rel…

NY is not an arrestee state for CODIS. You must be convicted first of a felony or certain enumerated misdemeanors. While there were prior efforts to change that to allow arrestee DNA collection/entry into CODIS, those efforts didn’t pass unfortunately. CA is an arrestee state.

@CoffindafferFBI Unfortunately NY CODIS requires a felony conviction rather than a felony arrest like CA allows. As a result, unsolved CODIS cases in NY must wait until a conviction.

The search was concluded late this afternoon. Linked below is the press conference concerning the search. Of note: *Approximately 279 weapons *They have not entered #RexHeuermann's DNA into CODIS. Suffolk County DA says he can't enter RH's DNA into CODIS because no felony conviction. Not sure that is correct, but in any event he made it clear they can compare to specific victims. *He referenced multiple other searches but won't talk about them *Items will go to Suffolk County Crime Lab for analysis *Search focused on Trace Evidence *August 1st next hearing *Cause of death for 3 victims was homicidal violence *He won't comment about trophies *No human remains but emphasized they will be looking at trace evidence *Vault was big enough to walk into and was in the basement *They had telephone analysis since 2012??? If so, disappointing *He said he can't talk about whether murders took place at RH's house or not #LISK #GilgoBeach youtu.be/amlpjK3Obiw

Seriously? That’s a farce. This bill is a reasonable effort to protect children who are trafficked. Even if convicted-these pimps often get out after serving less than 50% of their time. Shame on anyone opposed to this bill.
Reggie Jones-Sawyer@JonesSawyerAD57

Human trafficking is a serious crime. But SB14 needs to be fixed. It could charge trafficking victims and children with a felony. We are going to improve this bill and provide justice for victims.

Shame on @MiaBonta for failing to protect California children! It’s even more disturbing that she claims to fight for women’s rights but turns a blind eye when innocent girls are being trafficked.
Ashley Zavala@ZavalaA

My latest column: Democrats' recent votes on high-profile criminal justice and housing bills sent a glaring signal that some members are increasingly willing to sacrifice everyday Californians on the altar of ideology, even when it means denying reality. sfchronicle.com/opinion/articl…
