@DCLAReadingRoom You've solved a long standing mystery for me with this post. I have an old company Ad from 1913 which mentions 'Ovada' .. now I know what it means 🙂 thank you

Between May 24–31, 1913, the Ovada Bazaar, was held at the RDS. The central hall was transformed into a detailed replica of the Italian town of Ovada, complete with shops, houses, gardens, and landscapes to transport visitors to Italy. Here is the layout

Thanks to everyone who came yesterday evening to the launch of my book The Root of All Evil at No Alibis and thanks to @Tim_Mc_Garry for his wonderful speech. It was a very enjoyable evening with Oisín no doubt stealing the show with his snazzy new jacket.

@kieranarose @DubLoony Hugely important site historically. Was to be called 'Percy Street' when first built/laid out in the 1600s onwards. Some building fabric may remain from then. Rere boundary is entirely that of the Old City Watercourse. I predict an important archeological dig...

@DCLAReadingRoom Amazing images. Map shows many irrigation channels from the City Watercourse at the Back of the Pipes. Tenter posts ('tenterhooks') in the fields at the back of James's St. Support system for The Liberties weaving industry. Thanks for sharing

Built c.1721 near St James' St, Dublin’s City Basin once supplied the city with water. Linked to Grand Canal Harbour in 1785, both were filled in by the 1960s. The Basin became flats & Oisín Kelly Park; the harbour, disused by 1960, was replaced by apartments in 2023.

Looks like the Lord Mayor’s Certificate in Local Studies class had another great field trip with course tutor Cathy Scufil, as part of their course. This time the class travelled to the Blessington area and it looks like the weather cooperated to make it a great day out.

Just as Fr Dougal McGuire does with rollerblading, I get a great buzz off receiving the first copies of a book I wrote. My book on Laois and the Irish Revolution arrived in the post today from ⁦@FourCourtsPress⁩. Very happy with how it has turned out.
