An amazing baby in my plankton sample. When this 0.5 mm tall creature was first discovered in the 19C it was thought to be an adult animal and named Actinotrocha. Later, it was realised to be the larva of a horseshoe worm and is now also called a phoronid larva. @zeiss_micro

Sea surface temperature isn't a great predictor for right whales, and it wouldn't have predicted the major changes that started ~12 years ago that led to the unusual mortality event. You need things like bottom temperature and prey abundance. E.g. online.ucpress.edu/elementa/artic…
