The ADHD workflow doesn't have a steady pace. There are only two speeds: staring at a blank document for three weeks feeling like an absolute fraud, and completing a month's worth of work in seven hours powered entirely by the sheer, unadulterated panic of a looming deadline. We don't manage time; we weaponize adrenaline

We here at Al Gore Crave would like to issue a full apology. Multiple times we have retweeted "2001 Live," and failed to realize that the account is run by a deranged bigot. We continue in our condemnation of Israels ongoing genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Another take may come from this: in English sailing lore, the cooks are frequently sailors who’ve lost a leg. (Long John Silver signs on as a cook, even.) The crew wants to reward their comrade, and a one-legged man can’t climb the rigging or pull on cables. Similarly, a lame man can’t hunt, is worse at riding, and can’t handle a plow as well. But he can be powerfully strong. So a job where you stay in one place all day - i.e., a smith - makes sense. This could have become traditional - it’s a way for clubfoots or cripples to make a real contribution to the clan. It may also explain the connection between dwarfs and metalworking. And it may have even gotten its start back in the neolithic - we know cripples were kept alive by both Neanderthals and Cro-magnon. Seems like they could keep helping in flint-knapping.

Genuinely amazing how Israeli tourists managed to wear down the hospitality of the Bisaya people in Siargao to such an extent that they are calling for their expulsion from the island there's gotta be a prize for that

This isn’t a movie. This isn’t a dance. This photo shows young men in Gaza forming a human shield to protect a Palestinian girl from Israeli snipers they would rather die than let her be shot.

After watching Project Hail Mary, this quote becomes even more stupid in the context of the film. The act of cooperation between nations to buy a chance for humanity, the act of helping someone who is ‘not us’, and even sacrificing ourselves for them when their lives in danger is social. And within that, there’s social commentary. Just because Andy Weir puts aside anything that sounds social or political, doesn’t mean it is absent of one. Perhaps the idea that absence of nationalities, ideologies and political beliefs in the vastness of space, where we are a small speck against the grand cosmos allows us to unite and help each other is a such commentary that Andy Weir refuses to acknowledge and engage with.

Project Hail Mary writer Andy Weir on social commentary in books: "I dislike social commentary. Like… I really hate it. When I’m reading a book, I just want to be entertained, not preached at by the author. Plus, it ruins the wonder of the story if I know the author has a political or social axe to grind. I no longer speculate about all possible outcomes of the story because I know for a fact that the universe of that book will conspire to ensure that the author’s political agenda is validated. I hate that." "I put no politics or social commentary into my stories at all. Anyone who thinks they see something like that is reading it in on their own. I have no point to make, and I’m not trying to affect the reader’s opinion on anything. My sole job is to entertain, and I stick to that." "To that end, I also don’t talk about my personal political opinions publicly. I don’t want readers to even know, honestly. I don’t want that in the back of their minds as they read my stuff." Is this why he has the #1 sci-fi movie in decades?
