Today, for the first time, The Shaw Prize Foundation officially announced the launch of a new prize category — The #ShawPrize in #ComputerScience. Nominations will open in September 2026, & the first Laureate(s) will be announced in spring 2027.

Prof Jeannette M. Wing, Executive Vice President for Research & Professor of Computer Science at @Columbia, said: “It’s a tribute to computer science for The Shaw Prize Foundation to recognize our field.”

Prof Joseph Sifakis, 2007 Turing awardee & Emeritus CNRS Research Director Verimag Laboratory, he addressed the field’s challenges: “The answer to the quest for intelligence lies in exploring mental phenomena & understanding how consciousness arose in living organisms.”

We welcome Prof @harryshum, Council Chairman of @hkust, to the Selection Committee for The #ShawPrize in Computer Science. He said “Computing is one of the most important human capabilities. We are reaching human intelligence level quickly.”

Prof. Tony Chan chaired the Planning Committee & is now a member of the Selection Committee. A former President of @hkust & @KAUST, he hoped the prize “will lend its prestige & track record to recognize true outstanding contributions to computer science.”
