Just got an email from OpenAI. Their analytics vendor Mixpanel got breached, names, emails, locations, and account metadata of API users exposed. Not chat logs this time, but it's a reminder of what's coming. People tell AI things they wouldn't put in emails. Medical questions, relationship problems, business strategies, personal confessions. When (not if) a major AI chat breach happens, it'll make email leaks look tame. This is why I'm increasingly interested in local AI. Models are getting smaller and smarter. The day you can run a genuinely capable assistant fully on-device, with zero data leaving your machine, can't come soon enough.
