Another month of US transit data is in, & DC's WMATA remains the fastest-growing major US transit agency, with ridership up 9.2% compared to last year!
King County Metro (Seattle, +6.5%) & SEPTA (Philly, +4.7%) have performed well, while LA Metro & NJTransit have lost riders🧵

All major US urban rail systems except LA gained ridership this year, with DC's WMATA leading at 19.2%, followed by Boston's MBTA at 13.9%, and SF Muni at 10.7%
LA Metro has lost riders (-.1%) while San Diego's MTS (2%) & NYC's MTA (4.6%) have seen slower growth

@JNavok @JamesSMarion @patrickklepek @TimSweeneyEpic It seemed like it had an outsized impact for the author! If the NPCs were saying racist things that I found beyond the pale, would I be in my right to rate it a low score even if it wasn't a big part of the game? I would hope so!

The politics of the film? Absolutely relevant; a movie like "One Battle After Another" is entirely political. The politics of how it was made? Could be!
Is it relevant for 40% of a review? Maybe, if it's something really substantial.
But the author of the review admits that the NPC voices are a small part of the experience, so to spend so much time on this stops being a legitimate take and starts being a way to abuse a game and turn the review into a political soapbox.

If you're going to attack a game in a revenue for political points your review loses its authenticity and becomes an op-ed.

You've changed the context from Metacritic to user reviews. Which is fine, but also has been the case for years. The crux of this conversation has not been that users have written rants or done review bombs but that professional critics are now inserting politics into the Metacritic review score that drives marketing around a title.

If you're going to take off points because you don't like the politics of something, we're going to see 50 rightwing game review sites pop up for the sole purpose of manipulating Metacritic that take off points for every "DEI" character and that will be perfectly justifiable too by the arguments made that it's fine to deduct scores for political reasons. We haven't seen that happen in the critical scores up until now, this has been the purview of user scores/review bombs up until now, but apparently it's open season on Metacritic too to push your politics into your reviews.

For critics there were plenty that spoke about the "ugly" character designs which was often (but not always) just a dog whistle for not liking diversity. Ex. gamerant.com/concord-review…

@JNavok @JamesSMarion @patrickklepek @TimSweeneyEpic Our characters were aliens with diverse body shapes, genders, skin colors, etc. It would be really weird if the aliens across an entire galaxy weren't diverse.

I can also tell you as someone who worked on Concord that right wing reviews taking off points for "DEI" characters did happen. It was gross, but you can't avoid politics with art.

@mattyglesias At least where I live (Los Angeles) museums are constantly loaning things out to other museums and getting things on loan. Maybe the problem is only the "prestigious" museums are in that circuit.
