UPDATE: Per multiple federal law enforcement sources to me & @Brooketaylortv, the Austin, TX mass shooter was wearing clothing that had the words “Property of Allah” on it and was possibly wearing an undershirt/T-shirt that had an Iranian flag or Iranian representations on it.

“You either need to transition your child or you don’t get to keep your child.” Attorney Erin Friday says California Child Protective Services can threaten parents who refuse to use their child’s preferred pronouns. She told me she feared calling the police when her 13 year old daughter ran away because she worried CPS would take her child. “My daughter, who was 13 years old, just starting high school, was secretly socially transitioned at school.” “The school started to call my daughter by a male name, use male pronouns.” “When I called the school and told them to stop, that next week Child Protective Services was at my door.” “The next day, the police.” “That was an immediate alert to me that the school wants to parent my child.” “If I didn’t follow and call my daughter a boy, Child Protective Services may come and take my child away.” “Parents in Southern California had lost custody of their children because they wouldn’t transition their daughter.” “I already had a black mark, and a few months later my daughter ran away.” “The normal thing for a parent to do is to ask law enforcement to help find your child… but I couldn’t make that phone call.” “Because Child Protective Services can swoop in anytime and take my child.” “It’s coercion at its highest level.” “You don’t get to parent your child.” “This is America. Oh, with all due respect, maybe do some research before blaming me for how an investigation is being handled. I’m not a city official. I’m not a county official. I don’t run the department, the task force, and I am not a law enforcement agent. Jurisdiction is a thing. Look it up.
I’ve been crystal clear, I don’t think this has been handled well, and I am not and have not been a supporter of the sherriff which again y'all would know if you took the time to look. It's really not that hard. I’ve also been crystal clear that my issue is NOT with the people covering this responsibly, nor with the coverage of Mrs. Guthrie. Reporting facts and stirring up conspiracies for likes are two very different hobbies.
But it’s fascinating, truly, that some of you are more outraged that I called out the nonsense than you are about the actual nonsense being spread. The misinformation? Fine. The conspiracy theories? No problem. Me saying “hey, that’s irresponsible”? Suddenly, I’m the villain.
If accountability feels like an attack, that’s probably something to unpack. But if you're all looking for an apology or me to thank those who are spreading their nonsense. You will not get that.

Representative, with all due respect, if you want to talk about "responsibility," you should take some for this disastrous investigation. Streamers are doing nothing that the media hasn't done for decades: cover the story in-real-time. I fear you're not upset with them, but more upset with the fact that they're exposing the sheer incompetence of the Pima County Sheriff & his search efforts. 20 days in, an elderly 84 year old woman is still missing with no leads, no arrests, and no clear direction where this case is even going. I get it. If I were in your position, I, too, would probably want people to stop talking about what a disaster this is. All under your watch too...
