With U.S. apparent copper consumption now running at roughly 2.2 million metric tons per year, the big picture is becoming impossible to ignore: America is heading into a period where copper demand growth will collide with an already fragile domestic supply chain.
USGS data show the U.S. 🇺🇸 still produces only about 1.0 million metric tons of mined copper annually, while S&P Global has projected that energy-transition-related🔋U.S. copper demand alone could approach 2.6 million metric tons by 2035.
That means the demand growth ahead is not just bullish for domestic miners—it is a strategic wake-up call. The miners that can permit, finance, and build new copper production in safe U.S. jurisdictions like Idaho stand to benefit from a structural tailwind that looks increasingly durable.
In a recent report, mining giant @bhp emphasized its positive outlook for copper. The global mining giant noted that in China🇨🇳, copper and steel have benefited from a sharp acceleration in renewable energy investment, grid expansion and machinery and electric vehicle production 🚃🚗
“By the end of the decade, we continue to see copper pricing moving into a phase of durable outperformance.” - BHP’s economic & commodity outlook (August 2025)

BHP also outlined a number of obstacles to global copper production growth, including lower ore grades, and increased depth and complexity of deposits. Meanwhile, growing regulatory, environmental and sustainability commitments usually add to the cost of developing a mine ⛏️
However, the story does not end at the mine gate: without meaningful expansion in smelting, refining, and recycling capacity, the United States will remain heavily dependent on foreign metal even if more ore is pulled out of the ground.
In other words, the next 15 years are likely to expose copper as both an investment theme and a national vulnerability, with rising import reliance becoming the inevitable consequence unless America builds out its own complete critical minerals supply chain.
At Hercules Metals, we are committed to doing our part to help strengthen U.S. critical minerals supply chain security and independence by advancing a major new copper discovery in one of America’s best mining jurisdictions. $BIG.V $BADEF #copper #criticalminerals #Idaho #Silver 🇺🇸⛏️
