@Geniustechw Cyclist. He shouldn't be at that point in the junction, that point is for motor vehicles that pay tax. On the left at all times no excuses as cyclists don't pay tax to ride the road.

@GeoffBuysCars It's a poor show when the only way to make decent progress on a motorway is to simply stay in the far left lane and undertake all the lane hoggers they are all breaking the law too so why not.

While I'm sat here, have you noticed how bad driving has become? 4 lanes, every car doing the same speed. You can make more progress in Europe with just 2 lanes. Middle lane hogging is a huge problem and it's mostly the usual suspects. People just don't understand how to drive on motorways and it's so frustrating.

@SmalllIvy @big_pedestrian Has it occurred to you that perhaps they could be cycling to the shops or perhaps cycling to school, perhaps some of the motor vehicles on the road are out for recreational purposes .

@big_pedestrian You're proving the point. The daughter and dad aren't off the the factory. They're doing recreation. Recreation is great, but not when people need to feed their families.

There is a large contingent of motorists that views anything less than everything as a great injustice. So when they see a bicycle lane, they see ceded territory, not a way for people to get where they need to go.

I'm in favour of higher taxes on bigger cars. SUVs are inappropriate in cities. Dangerous to other road users, environmentally damaging, and take up too much space on our roads. And we make £2billion to spend elsewhere.

When Sam Laidlow set the world record for the cycle leg of a triathlon in 2024, he averaged 28.5mph (45.6kph). The only way it’s ‘not rare to see a cyclist doing 30mph’ - almost 50kph - is if you regularly watch professional cycle sprinting at a velodrome...😂

In London in particular, Cyclists are riding on roads, thro red lights AND illegally on pavements as though its the wild west. They sanctimoniously believe they are untouchable. It's not just a few cyclists who think they are above the law its most of them. Along with unchecked e-bikes & e-scooters pedestrians r seriously at risk of being hit & injured +motorists risk collisions too, coz of Lycra disregard for lawful & safe road usage. Do you agree?

Using a screenshot of a Strava leaderboard where a cyclist apparently managed a 115mph segment average on Putney bridge is unequivocal proof that cyclists can easily exceed 30mph 💡

@raczylo @richardparke15 @jonburkeUK I think you would find it a considerably longer list if all drivers posted their excessive speeds on Strava, BTW it's very likely that some of those on your list are actually posted by people in a motor vehicle anyway!

@richardparke15 @jonburkeUK Not really. We are talking here about people who not only exceeded the speeds, but had their profiles public in one specific app. There are dozens of different apps and not all cyclists use them anyway so the comments actually stands.

@jonburkeUK Average speed of the world record has nothing to do with possibility to observe lycra clad morons doing 30 mph and above on short distances in the city. Did you forgot that strava removed rankings after media caught up with what’s going on in parks?

@ediz1975 Absolutely appropriate, he simply wanted to leave his expensive e-bike in safe place for a short time rather than risking it being stolen , the risk of it catching fire in that short period on time would be more likely than winning the jackpot on the lottery.

Thoughts on this cyclist …. Council refused to allow him to leave it in building …. Things took a turn for the worse. Was this cyclists behavior appropriate?

@benn_elisbenn @ediz1975 I suggest Elisabeth that you get on a pedal cycle and see for yourself how much effort it takes to do 30 mph+, most average cyclists only manage to maintain a little over half that speed.

@ediz1975 Adult cyclists who cycle need to take the theory part of the Driving Test. They can travel at 30 + mph so should be tested. Hiring or buying/using an electric bike should automatically require the Theory part. Riding a hire e-scooter demands at least a provisional licence.

This perfectly illustrates some of the poor cycling I see on a daily basis in London …. Crazy decisions and poor hazard perception leading to dangerous situations. Hold back let hazard disappear. Stay safe ….. Look after yourself … who cares if your journey takes 5 minutes longer here ….
