@DelcoBaseball TJ Chism. Did absolutely everything for our sun valley team on the road to an eventual loss in the state finals. Great hitter and pitcher:

Making history on the big stage ⭐️ Congrats to Vinny DeAngelo on becoming the all-time leading scorer in program history! DeAngelo scored 17 points tonight to pass Will Gates ‘13, who previously held the record with 1,702 points.

The first person Joe Torre called after the 2004 ALCS was Tim Wakefield. The Yankees lost, but Torre wanted to congratulate Wakefield, knowing how many times Boston fell short at that point. From Jack Curry’s New York Times piece in 2005: “Torre was alone with his disappointment, staring at the black telephone on his desk. He could have called his wife for comfort or he could have called George Steinbrenner, the principal owner, for discomfort. He lifted the receiver and, surprise, called Boston pitcher Tim Wakefield instead. ""I just told him I wasn't happy," Torre said, "but I was happy for him." "In dialing the four-digit extension to the visiting clubhouse, Torre wanted to acknowledge the pitcher who had left Yankee Stadium as a loser in the previous American League Championship Series. "After Wakefield gave up Aaron Boone's homer in the unforgettable seventh game in 2003, he worried that he might become another Bill Buckner. But Wakefield helped the Red Sox stifle the Yankees in the A.L.C.S. and end an 86-year-old famine by winning the World Series last year. ""He walked off the mound after giving up Boone's homer, and it must have been a long year for him," Torre said. "He had done nothing but get us out in that series, and, all of a sudden, he's got to walk off to that." "Wakefield walked off the mound under drastically different circumstances Monday. He had confused the Yankees with his knuckleball, a pitch so jumpy that catcher Doug Mirabelli had trouble handling it, in powering the Red Sox to an 8-1 victory at Fenway Park. He did not permit an earned run in seven sunny, windy, gloriously Boston innings."

"Who?" That's how Coach Prime responded to a question about his starting center. The kid who snaps the ball to his son and he doesn't even know the kid's name.

@KevinNowoswiat @HoopMixOnly the nba, the game would still be basically in the same place. Remove bird and magic, and we might be talking about the two major sports baseball and football.

@StarkVilleLearn @HoopMixOnly I could say the same about the NBA instituting the 3 point line in the 79-80 season (which is when bird and magic came in) being more of an agent for driving NBA popularity then Bird and Magic were.

@KevinNowoswiat @HoopMixOnly and flopping. It’s turned into soccer. Every player in the league does it not just an isolated few. Curry is arguably the greatest shooter in nba history. Would he have been as great if there were still contact in todays game, probably not. If you remove curry from ever being in

@KevinNowoswiat @HoopMixOnly The fans wanted to move to a more uninhibited faster game with more offense and less defense. This has been accomplished by officiating changes. The hard foul, preventing the three point play, and not letting a cutter through the lane are long gone. We are left with zero contact

@KevinNowoswiat @HoopMixOnly Officiating changed the game just as much as curry. He didn’t save the game like bird and magic. It’s a flipping zero contact sport now.

@StarkVilleLearn @HoopMixOnly He changed the way basketball is played. Magic and bird may have popularized it to a certain degree but Jordan was the main catalyst in the popularization of basketball. Curry changed how it’s played and made it more popular, Magic and bird only did one of those things
