Devastating scenes here in Somerset! I am so sad to see my local reedbeds burnt out. Last week I was watching Reed Warblers and Wrens nesting in here. I cannot believe they have been burnt and destroyed during breeding season 😢☹️😞 Diesel was used to start this reckless act.

In 4 weeks I will be in the NSW Supreme Court to appeal the decision of being found guilty of vilification for identifying two males in women’s sport. I was ordered to pay $95,000 in damages. If those males were really women- we wouldn’t be going to court. Truth matters

I was woken this morning at 1:45am to the sound of breaking glass and then the sound of an outboard boat engine heading away. My youngest daughter lives in a narrowboat that is moored alongside mine here in London. As I got up to see what was going on, my phone went and it was her. She had woken to someone smashing her bedroom window with a hammer, two feet from her head as she slept. She was covered in glass. Her bed was covered in glass. I rushed around and her window was completely smashed. It will have taken them several attempts to smash the whole window out as they had. Everywhere was glass. On my daughter, on the bed. Everywhere. She called the police in tears and badly shaken and they told her they weren’t going to bother coming out as it had happened now and that was that. She got a crime reference number. A young woman in London has her bedroom window smashed in the middle of the night as she sleeps and the police aren’t interested. I need to tell you all; it is essential that you realise that we do not have a police service in this country. It is essential that you realise that and take measures as I am doing, to protect yourself and your family. You will not receive help from the police. I am not now going to rant about who I believe they are here to protect, but it certainly isn’t decent, working people like my daughter. I’m incredibly proud of my daughter who is of course, very, very shaken up. This was an horrendous incident but with a bloke smashing her bedroom window in as she slept, I don’t need to explain that it could have been far worse. I could not despise the police more. They’re not fit to wear a uniform. I shall ensure that anyone who harms my family will be far less healthy than they began the day. I’m really angry. I’ve spent the night emptying the millions of glass shards from my daughter’s duvet, sheets and pillowcases. Her head was within two feet of where someone with a hammer was smashing in her bedroom window. I’ve boarded up the window to make it secure. Take care out there people. You are alone when this happens. Ensure you can protect yourself. It’s all you have. There is no support and no backup. Please realise that and take action to defend yourself and your family.

Grateful to Times columnist Giles Coren for putting to the sword a local council pipsqueak for trying to put out of business a restaurant in the middle of nowhere where owner Ruth Hanson does all the kitchen prep herself, the washing up, the bookings, the till, payroll and then cooks it. The restaurant is called Hansom in Bedale, North Yorkshire. To give you an idea of its remoteness it’s 7 miles from Northallerton and 31 miles from York. So, on occasions, her husband Mark, who had a job of his own, gives up his evenings to chauffeur some guests to and from their homes. Coren points out when he reviewed the place last year ( he gave it a glowing recommendation) he had to hitchhike from Northallerton station. No Bedale train, no metro, no Uber hanging around at the corner. Enter Chris Doyle, licensing enforcement officer for N Yorkshire council, who has written to Ruth saying in his view Mark was operating a taxi service and that would require a raft of expensive and time consuming licences. Ruth responded that Mark was her husband, he was unpaid and there was no separate charge for the journey. Doyle said he didn’t care as there was deemed to be a commercial benefit and warned without a licence the council may take legal action. Coren has a great last paragraph; “ Yeah, you sue her, you absolute local heroes. “ You teach Ruth and Mark a lesson for being great at their jobs, for treasuring their customers, for trying to create a little joy and make ends meet in a collapsing world.” PS Thought you’d like to see what a Ruth menus looks like. While avoiding providing full details of the extent of the little girl’s ordeal, Judge Peter Tober noted she had been subjected to torture-like conditions, mentioning neck collars and sex toys. “If this was not heinous, cruel and depraved, I don’t know what is,” Judge Tober said, stating that the girl had been taken from her actual mother “solely for the sexual gratification” of others. News reports on the crime referred to Volz as the little girl’s “mother.” Both Volz and Romero are serving their lengthy prison sentences in a women’s prison, Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, in New Jersey.
