Once operated a large(ish) backpackers hostel in Port Campbell, on the Great Ocean Road. Had a young family show up, one dark and wintery night. Mum had been driving. She was deadset certain she’d departed Melbourne earlier that day, and headed east. Was prepared to debate to her last that we *had* to be in Lakes Entrance. Lakes Entrance is about 320 km east of Melbourne. Port Campbell - via the GOR - is about 290 km very much west of Melbourne. Completely opposite direction.

My worst nightmare. Waiting to check in at the motel standing behind people who don’t know what they booked or for when but somehow it’s the staff’s fault.

One high school in ChCh has sent students home ready with a Laptop and plan to homeschool. They did this as they said it s the holidays and they don’t know how things will escalate and want students prepared for the 1st day back. What do they know that we don’t?

Dunno. You could point to the lack of a stadium as such… but, who’d care? It’d be ‘Easter Festivalesque’ rugby; a something a little different than the SR offering this far into the season. International cricket matches are played at the venue, so the basic infrastructure and learned experiences they’d need for hosting and broadcasting are already there.

And with Wanaka being < 1 hour drive away; Cromwell about 30 minutes drive away… there’d be somewhere in the realm of 50,000 people (and probably more) within a 60 minute arc, all looking for something to do on the Saturday afternoon.

Yep. Queenstown Events Centre. It’d host a circa 15k rugby crowd easily. (Admittedly, most standing - but no different to exactly as it was on the terraces at Carisbrook, back in the day.) You’d be stupid to consider hosting a SR match in Dunedin over Easter. The students have all buggered off for an extended break, and everyone else in the city leaves to head… inland, to Central Otago and towns like Wanaka and Queenstown. The very audience the game would attract is literally already there, and they’d love something to do as an anchor activity, for the entire family, on the Easter Saturday afternoon. It’s a no-brainer. Why it’s not a scheduled game??? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

@Dr_McCockliffe @jrodbourn Not bad thinking. Apparently Highlanders were a big ‘no’ for Easter fixture due to uni holidays etc in Dunners. This would be a work around, but do they have facilities to cater for 15K crowd?
