As Kentucky players and personnel were walking off the floor at halftime, a fan near the tunnel shouted at Mitch Barnhart asking "How's that 900 thousand?" in his direction... Barnhart stopped and turned around and made an effort to see who had said it, asking if that fan would care to say it to his face before walking off without any further excitement.

"Insider journalism" isn't an issue. It's a skill that takes time to hone as you develop relationships with sources. "Access journalism," where only certain journalists are given scoops in exchange for positive coverage, is an issue.
Robin Hanson@robinhanson

Many worried about "insider trading", but few worry about "insider journalism". But is it fair that reporters with better connections write more informative and interesting stories? Shouldn't we make sure news stories are only based on public info equally open to all reporters?

@cammillerfilms Yes, and the metro area has several D-1 basketball teams that have arenas the size they need. Not saying Cincy can't or shouldn't have an 18K+ seat arena, but given how many are nearby (Indy, Lou, Lex & C'bus), it's not an immediate need.

It is not lost on me that Greenville, SC, population about 70K, gets an NCAA Tourney game...but Cincinnati can't seem to figure out how to refurbish/build an arena to get in on the action again.

Obviously partnerships like this don’t carry direct legal weight per se’, but they do contribute to a sense of legitimacy and cultural permanence, which does end up having an impact on the legal process.
Mike Selig@ChairmanSelig

Today the @CFTC and @MLB made history by signing the first-ever MOU between a sports league and federal agency. We’ve committed to work together to protect the integrity and resilience of prediction markets relating to professional baseball. Through this partnership, the @CFTC is well-positioned to add additional tools to protect our markets from fraud, manipulation, and other abuses. Thanks to @MLB and Commissioner Manfred for working with us to protect the integrity of these growing markets. Read the full MOU⬇️ cftc.gov/PressRoom/Pres…

The idea that some people are pushing that Polymarket is "offshore" is becoming increasingly irrelevant, I think is one of the lessons of today's news. The MLB deal is as much about establishing legitimacy as it is anything else.

He's definitely signing it. "I'm not saying I'm not going to sign it. I just haven't seen the bill itself. We really have to make sure all 11 Tribal nations in Wisconsin are getting a fair shake on this, and I'll find out when I see the final product." -- Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers

Good for Arizona. These entities are clearly usurping the rights of states to regulate, or choose to not allow, sports betting in their states. The Supreme Court was perfectly clear on this issue, as is the 10th Amendment.
