I have a few more questions regarding this statement. But this 'Monday meeting' energy is giving me major flashbacks to my MoD days. Throwback to the first six months of the war when we tried to set up an emergency Saturday call for our Minister with a certain European Defense Minister to ask for, you know, urgent weapons and ammo to stay alive. Their team: 'Oh, the Minister is away for the weekend with his kids in City X. Let’s try for Monday or maybe Tuesday.' Us: 'So sorry for interrupting your family time with our literal war...' 🥲

it's the same reason Ukraine continues to provoke Russia - it is a US proxy doing so for US interests at the expense of its own people's interests. The political elite in both Ukraine and Cambodia are fully isolated from the consequences of their policies and clearly couldn't care any less about their populations. Cambodia is often depicted as a deep Chinese ally but China and Thailand have a vastly larger relationship, including in military terms . In the last 2 years especially, Cambodia has pivoted hard toward an irrational military relationship with the US - inviting US warships to Chinese-refurbished ports in Cambodia, meetings with US military officials DURING the last round of hostilities with Thailand - the new PM, the former PM's son, Hun Manet - is a West Point grad... I still can’t fully understand this conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. In the first clash, it seemed clear to me that Cambodia fired first on a Thai village. But even after the de-escalation and ceasefires, Cambodia kept planting landmines along the border — including several in areas that Thailand considers its own territory. I don’t understand what possible reasons would lead Cambodia, which is militarily much weaker, to take such provocative stances. To me, it looks like a classic case of nationalism driving reckless, almost suicidal policies… but I’m sure some people much better informed than me will show up to explain it properly.
