Pres. Carter got a lot wrong, IMHO, but I'll say this: he was a nice guy and a vet who put others first. He was not a compulsive liar, a sociopath, or a malignant narcissist with delusions of authoritarian grandeur, and he did not deliberately play off people's worst instincts.
