We want more creative jobs in the North East. So, we’re investing £2m to open a new @NewWritingNorth Centre for Writing and Publishing in the North East in the Old Post Office building in Newcastle. For too long, talented people in these industries had to to go London to succeed. I have promised to fix that. With this investment we’re a step closer to writers, publishers and creatives having the home they need to tell the our story and tell it here.

Sad to hear that Jane Lapotaire has died. She was a terrific stage & tv actress. So many standout roles. But the BBC’s brilliant mini series as Marie Curie, & her Piaf were unforgettable performances that stay long in the memory. Another true great leaves the stage. RIP

Very sad to hear Neil Sedaka has left the stage. He wrote so many wonderful songs such as Laughter in the Rain, The Hungry Years, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Solitaire, Love Will Keep Us Together, Oh! Carol & Calendar Girl. A terrific performer, influence & great loss. RIP X Stu x

Very sad to hear that Chris Rea has died. A great north eastern singer/songwriter & blues man. A superb guitarist, with an unmistakable voice. He wrote so many classy pop hits including Fool (If You Think it’s Over), On The Beach, Road to Hell & Driving Home For Christmas. RIP

I’m devastated 2 hear Diane Keaton has died. I remember my sister dragging a teenage me along to see Annie Hall. And her performance was so modern, so true, so real that it had an enormous impact on me & I’m sure a million women worldwide. The 70s are evaporating. Rest well. RIP

The Coldstream Guards were trooping their colour this morning, and as the regiment recruits in the North East they marched past the King to the strains of ‘Northumbrian Airs’, which features Keep Your Feet Still Geordie Hinny, the Lambton Worm and the Blaydon Races 🫡

Sad to hear Brian Wilson has died. Impossible to state how big an influence he was in the world of pop music. RIP Stu 🎼x
