Rory O’Hanlon’s dad was from Mullaghbawn, south Armagh. He was one of Collins’ men on Bloody Sunday. Like his dad, Rory did our state some service. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam Gaelach. 🇮🇪 Former FF minister, ceann comhairle Rory O'Hanlon dies via @RTENews rte.ie/news/politics/…

So sorry to hear that Rory O’Hanlon has died. As Ceann Comhairle, Minister and TD, he made an immense contribution to our island and our peace in difficult times. Thinking of his family, his colleagues in @fiannafailparty and broad circle of friends in @SDLPLive.

Cleopatra (1963) cost so much it nearly sunk 20th Century Fox. What started as a $2M movie exploded into a $44M epic due to delays and Elizabeth Taylor's record salary, forcing the studio to sell off land just to stay afloat. 44 million in 1963 is about 460 million in 2026

Elizabeth Taylor's 69.4-carat pear shaped, D-color, Interally Flawless diamond. It came up for auction at Sotheby's on October 23, 1969. At the sale, Cartier outbid Richard Burton who was bidding over the phone, but he later negotiated with them to the record breaking tune of $1,050,000 for the stone. When the stone changed hands, it was set in a ring. It was named the Taylor-Burton Diamond and mounted as a pendent on a $25,000 necklace by Harry Winston. There also was unprecedented publicity around this sale. In 1978, Elizabeth Taylor sold the stone, and the proceeds went to help build a hospital in Botswana, Africa. Sometime later that year Robert Mouawad purchased it. © insidehistory

What a remarkable and deeply inspiring PGA TOUR victory by Gary Woodland at the Texas Children's Houston Open. His journey over the past few years has been nothing short of extraordinary. To face a life-threatening health challenge, undergo brain surgery, and then return to compete at the highest level of our game takes a level of courage that goes far beyond golf. I have always said that golf mirrors life, and Gary Woodland has shown us all what it means to fight, to believe and to never give up. His victory is not just a win on the PGA TOUR, but rather, a triumph of the human spirit. I salute your strength, your resilience, and your unwavering determination. This is one of the most meaningful victories our game has seen in many years. GP
